Annual Bluegrass Weevil

Annual Bluegrass Weevil
You may have noticed the pipes and bottles located in the roughs on the #3, 8, 14 and 18 holes [See picture]. These are traps for monitoring the spring migration of the Annual Bluegrass Weevil. The weevils overwinter in protected areas in the roughs and tree lines and migrate to the short cut grasses (greens, tees and fairways) on the golf course during the early spring. These weevils feed predominately on annual bluegrass (Poa annua) from April through late August and can be very destructive. Due to our high populations of annual bluegrass on the course we target these weevils with a program to try to minimize the damage. The traps are one of our methods of monitoring the weevils.
